Rangers Take Two from Mustangs on the Road

Silver City, N. M.: The Rangers snatched two wins in Silver City, N. M. on Saturday after defeating the Mustangs 13-2 in six innings in the first game and 9-6 in the second game.

In the first game, both teams scored in the first and third innings. Regis (14-9, 6-2 RMAC) scored two in the top of the first before the Mustangs (4-10, 2-4 RMAC) scored one. In the third, both teams scored one each to set the score at 3-2 in favor of Regis. The Rangers scored one more in the fourth before tacking nine runs onto their existing four in the top of the sixth.

Throughout the sixth inning, every Ranger but one scored a run for the team with senior Jackie Martinez scoring two. Regis sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning and tallied six hits. These nine runs put Regis well over the eight run mercy rule and forced the game to end in six innings after the Mustangs couldn't get anyone across the plate in the bottom of the sixth.

After getting run ruled in the first game, the Mustangs jumped on the Rangers scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to start off the second game. The Rangers answered back with one run in the top of the second before Western New Mexico scored one themselves in the bottom of the inning. Regis crossed three more over the plate in the top of the third to tie the score at four. Two more runs, one in the fourth and one in the fifth put the Rangers up 6-4. Western came back with two in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score once again (6-6). The sixth went scoreless before three unmatched Ranger runs in the seventh clenched the victory for Regis (9-6).

Sophomore Bianca Holley grasped the first win after pitching four innings for the Rangers. She gave up six hits and allowed only two earned runs. Freshman Natalie Adami grabbed the second victory after coming into the game in the fourth inning to pitch 2.2 innings for the Rangers. She gave up just one hit and kept any Mustangs from crossing the plate.

The Rangers will finish their series against the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Sunday. Game times are set for 11 and one.
