Ranger Softball Signs Two Colorado High School Student-Athletes to National Letters of Intent

Denver, Colo.: Regis University Head Softball Coach Dana Lillard announced the signing of two Colorado high school student-athletes for the 2010 season.  Breanna Backlund of Aurora and Shannon Massine of Larkspur both signed National Letters of Intent to play softball at Regis University.

Backlund is a utility player from Eaglecrest High School in Centennial.  She is a two-time First Team All-Centennial League performer.  The left-handed slap hitter, was a four-time letterwinner at Eaglecrest HS and helped lead her team to the 5A State Championship her freshman season.  Backlund's sister, Melissa, was a four-year starter for the Rangers and holds four career school records.

"Breanna has good speed and will give us some needed depth," says head coach Dana Lillard.  "She can play a lot of different positions and even though she is a slap hitter, has good power."

Massine was a Colorado Class 5A Honorable Mention selection this fall at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock.  She holds the school's season and career records for stolen bases and over the last two seasons she was successful on 43-of-44 stolen base attempts.  She was a three-time All-Continental League performer and was named the Team MVP this fall.

Coach Lillard states, "Shannon has a lot of speed and will add depth to our outfield.  She will be a big asset to us on the base paths and with her speed can run down a lot of balls in the outfield."

"We are excited to have both these outstanding student-athletes join our team," comments Lillard. "Both are hard workers on and off the field."
