Ranger Softball Picked to Finish Sixth in RMAC; Three Rangers Earn Preseason All-RMAC Honors

Colorado Springs, Colo.:  The Regis University softball team was picked to finish sixth in 2009 as released by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Regis is selected to finish third in the East Division with Colorado Mines picked to win the division.  The voting for the preseason poll is done by the 12 head coaches.

Mines is picked to win the RMAC regular season with Metro State selected second.  In the West Division, Mesa State is selected to win, with Adams State selected second.  Mines won the regular season RMAC title last season, while Fort Lewis completed an unprecedented run to the RMAC Tournament Championship.

The Rangers are coming off a 25-26 season, including an 18-20 conference mark.  Regis finished ninth in the RMAC last season, just missing out on a berth to the RMAC tournament.

Three Rangers were selected to the 12-person preseason All-RMAC team.  Senior third baseman Jacki Martinez, sophomore center fielder Alisa Heronema and sophomore pitcher Bianca Holley were all honored.  Martinez hit .357 last season, third best on the team, leading the team with 13 doubles and 26 walks.  Heronema, was the only freshman to be named First Team All-RMAC after a stellar season in centerfield.  She led Regis with a .424 batting average, 40 runs scored and 84 hits.  She led the RMAC in triples with seven and was third in total hits.  Holley was 6-10 last season with a 4.54 ERA in 15 starts.  She appeared in 25 games and had one shutout while striking out 82.

Regis will begin the season at home as well as they host former RMAC-foe Fort Hays State on Feb. 7th in a doubleheader at the Regis Softball Field.
