Rangers Split in Day Two of RMAC Tournament to end Tournament Play

Denver, Colo.: After coming into the RMAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, Regis' tournament play came to an end on Friday as they split on the day giving them their second loss for elimination. The Rangers defeated Fort Lewis in game one 4-1 before succuming to Mesa State College 5-3 in game two.

In game one, the Rangers scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning after sophomore Alisa Heronema tripled to right field before being brought in on a fielder's choice by freshman Cassie Long. The Skyhawks were able to tie the score in the bottom of the inning.

Regis took a two run lead in the top of the second after a leadoff walk placed freshman Nikki Haberkorn at first. After being sacraficed over to second by junior Maureen McDaniel, a strikeout which forced a throw to first advanced Haberkorn to third. Sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee singled up the middle to score Haberkorn before Heronema tripled to left center to score Aragon-Autobee.

Fort Lewis went scoreless for the remainder of the game while Regis scored one more run in the top of the sixth. The Rangers grasped the victory 4-1 to stay alive.

While the Rangers scored the first run of the first game, Mesa State took the first lead in game two in the bottom of the first. It wasn't long before Regis tied the score in the top of the second 1-1. The Mavericks again took the lead in the bottom of the third and added three more runs to the board in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

The fifth and sixth innings went scoreless for both teams before Regis was able to cross two runs over the plate in the top of the seventh. These runs weren't enough to tie the Mavericks ending the game 5-3 after the top of the seventh in favor of Mesa State.

Fueling the Ranger offense, Heronema  led the Rangers going 7-for-8 on the day. In game one, she went 3-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI before going 4-for-4 in game two scoring one run. Haberkorn went 3-for-6 while scoring three runs and bringing in two. Also going 3-for-6 Aragon-Autobee turned the order over from the nine hole and scored one Ranger run.

While RMAC Tournament play is over for the Rangers, regional play will be determined on Sunday which could allow Regis' season to continue on to next week.
