Relentless Rangers Gain Split Against Metro State

Denver, Colo.: After being run-ruled 10-0 in game one, the Rangers showed their ability to put up a fight by taking the Roadrunners into a nine inning game. Regis claimed a 3-2 victory in game two over Metro State while on the road Wednesday.

In the first game, Regis (21-14, 13-7 RMAC) got down 1-0 in the bottom of the first. This one run deficit increased to eight over the next two innings. The Rangers were unable to cross any runners over the plate and allowed seven Roadrunner runs. Four of Metro State's runs came in the bottom of the second followed by three more in the third. Metro scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth before shutting out Regis in the top of the fifth for the run rule 10-0.

Sophomore Jamie Winsor had the Rangers lone hit and walk while freshman Cassie Long was hit by a pitch. These three at bats were the only one's that kept Metro State pitcher Christie Robinson from throwing a perfect game.

Being relentless, Regis came back from their game one loss to beat Metro State 3-2 in a nine inning game. The Roadrunners (25-5, 18-2 RMAC) scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take the first lead of the game. The Rangers cut that deficit to one, 2-1, in the top of the fifth on a run by sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee. After singling to left field, Aragon-Autobee advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single through the right side by Winsor brought her in for the run. Regis held Metro to no runs in the bottom of the inning.

The sixth inning went scoreless before the Rangers scored one more in the seventh to tie the game at 2. Freshman Nikki Haberkorn homered to right center to take the game into the bottom of the seventh. After holding the Roadrunners to no runs, the game went into extra innings. The eigth inning went scoreless for both teams before Regis scored another run in the top of the ninth to take the lead 3-2.

Haberkorn came through once again for the Rangers by reaching first on a single to right field. A sacrafice bunt by Aragon-Autobee advanced her to second before a single to centerfield by sophomore Alisa Heronema scored her.

After holding Metro State to zero runs in the bottom of the ninth, Regis claimed the victory.

Recording the loss in game one was sophomore Bianca Holley who is now 9-7. Recording the win in game two was Haberkorn who is now 10-5.
