Rangers Take Two to Secure Split in Four Game Series with Mesa State
Denver, Colo.: After dropping two to Mesa State
on Saturday, the Rangers took two on Sunday to gain a split while
in Grand Junction this past weekend. Regis snagged the first game
on a close lead, 2-0, before blowing out the Mavericks in game two,
14-6.
In the first game, the first two innings went scoreless before
Regis scored two in the top of the third to take the lead and
eventually gain the win.
Sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee started off the inning with a single
up the middle before Alisa Heronema, also a sophomore, singled on a
bunt to move Autobee to second. Both runners advanced on a single
through the left side by sophomore Jamie Winsor. Freshman Natalie
Adami walked to bring in the first run. Senior Jackie Martinez then
singled through the left side to score Heronema for the second run
of the game.Neither team scored for the remainder of the game. The
victory went to Regis 2-0.
To start off the second game, both teams scored two runs in the
first inning. Mesa and Regis matched each other again in the second
each scoring one. The third and the fourth went scoreless before
the Rangers scored four in the top of the fifth. The Mavericks came
back with one in the bottom of the inning before the sixth went
scoreless.
Regis jumped on top of Mesa State in the seventh scoring seven runs
in the top of the inning. They totaled for four hits and took
advantage of three Maverick errors. While Mesa scored two in the
bottom of the inning, it wasn't enough to carry the game into extra
innings. Regis grabbed the victory 14-6.
Recording the first win was sophomore Bianca Holley who is now 8-5.
Freshman Nikki Haberkorn recorded the second win and is now 10-5 on
the season.
Regis will face Metro State next on March 25th at Metro. The first
pitch is set for noon.
