Rangers Drop Two to Mesa State on the Road

Denver, Colo.: The Rangers' three game winning streak ended in Grand Junction on Saturday after two losses, 5-4 and 8-0, to Mesa State. Regis registered 17 hits on the day two of which were doubles while two others cleared the fence.

In the first game, the Rangers (19-11, 11-4 RMAC) took the first lead in the top of the first on a single run. Sophomore Alisa Heronema singled through the right side and advanced to third on sophomore Jamie Winsor's sacrafice bunt. Freshman Natalie Adami brought Heronema in on a single to the left side.

The second inning went scoreless before Regis tacked one more run onto their previous one in the top of the third. After singling to centerfield, senior Jackie Martinez was brought in on sophomore Emily Anderson's single up the middle.

The Mavericks (10-11, 6-9 RMAC) went ahead in the bottom of the third after scoring three runs on four hits. The fourth went scoreless before Mesa State went up by two in the bottom of the fifth on one more Maverick run. Both teams scored one in the sixth before Regis scored one more in the top of the seventh. That last Ranger run however, wasn't enough to take the game into the bottom of the inning ending the game in favor of Mesa State 5-4. Sara Jordan, now 5-4, recorded the win while Bianca Holley, 7-5, recorded the loss.

After registering 14 hits in the first game, the Rangers only combined for three hits in game two. One came in the first, one in the fourth, and the last in the sixth. The Rangers were unable to get any of the runners that reached base across the plate ending the game with Cierra Lard throwing a shutout and recording the win. Dropping to a record of 9-5, is Nikki Haberkorn who recorded the loss.

While the Mavericks never scored more than two runs in an inning, they scored two in all but two innings totaling for eight runs. They grabbed the victory 8-0.

The Rangers will face the Mavericks again in two more conference matchups on Sunday. The first pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
