Rangers Take Two on Sunday to Snag Three of Four from Skyhawks
Denver, Colo.: After splitting with the Skyhawks on Saturday, the Rangers stole both games on Sunday to finish the weekend 3-1. Regis won the first game 6-5 before winning the second one 5-3.
After holding the Skyhawks scoreless in the top of the first inning of the first game, Regis (19-10, 11-3 RMAC) scored one in the bottom to take the lead. Sophomore Jamie Winsor doubled to right center and was brought in on freshman Natalie Adami's single. The second inning went scoreless before the Rangers tagged two more runs onto their previous one in the bottom of the third. Taking advantage of two Skyhawk errors, Regis scored two runs on just one hit.
Fort Lewis (9-11, 6-8 RMAC) scored two runs in the top of the fourth and Regis scored one in the bottom of the inning. The fifth inning went scoreless before the Rangers registered two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Skyhawks crossed three runners over home plate coming within one of the Rangers in the top of the seventh but were unable to force the game into the bottom of the seventh inning. Regis grasped the victory 6-5.
Coming off of a one run victory, neither team could get a run across the plate in the first two innings of the second game. The third inning however, was a different story. Regis scored five runs on five hits to take a commanding lead over the Skyhawks. Fort Lewis was able to register three runs during the remainder of the game with one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth. The seventh went scoreless ending the game in favor of Regis 5-3.
Regis will play Mesa State in Grand Junction on March 21st and 22nd in a four game conference series. The first pitch is set for noon on the 21st.
