Rangers Score 20 Runs to Win Both in Second Day of NSIC/RMAC Crossover Tournament
Colorado Springs, Colo.: After splitting in day one of the NSIC/RMAC Crossover Tournament, the Rangers came back to score 20 runs to their opponents 10 for two victories on the second day of competition. In their first game, Regis defeated Minnesota State 13-6 before defeating Augustana 7-4.
Regis took an early four run lead against Minnesota State in the bottom of the first before scoring one in the third, five in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Minnesota State scored four in the third, and one in the fifth and sixth before falling to the Rangers.
The Rangers totaled 16 hits in 34 at bats, scoring 13 runs on 11 RBI's. Sophomore Alisa Heronema went 3-for-5, junior Maureen McDaniel went 2-for-2, sophomore Emily Anderson went 2-for-4, freshman Nikki Haberkorn went 3-for-4, and sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee went 2-for-3. Most impressive was that all hitters in the lineup had one or more hits on the game. Sophomore pitcher Bianca Holley grabbed the win (4-1) allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits and striking out two.
After defeating Minnesota State, Regis faced Augustana. The first inning went scoreless before the Rangers took a one run lead in the top of the second. That lead extended to four after the top of the third and to six after the fourth. In the fifth, Augustana scored four to come within one of the Rangers. Regis scored one more in the top of the seventh and held Augustana to zero runs to end the game 7-4. Haberkorn (2-4) recorded the win allowing four runs, all earned, on eight hits. She struck out seven.
The final day of the Crossover Tournament is Sunday.
