Rangers Split on Day Three of Crossover Tournament to Finish 4-2 Overall

Colorado Springs, Colo.: After going 3-1 in the first two days of the Crossover Tournament, the Rangers fell 9-2 in their first game on Sunday against Wayne State. They came back to split after defeating University of Mary 16-4 in five innings.

The Rangers experienced five scoreless innings against Wayne State before scoring one in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Alisa Heronema scored the Rangers lone run. After reaching first on a single, she was brought in by freshman Natalie Adami's triple through the left side. In the bottom of the seventh, the second Ranger run came on a solo homerun by freshman Nikki Haberkorn which sailed over the left field fence.

Wayne State scored two in the third, two in the fourth, one in in the sixth, and four in the seventh, keeping Regis at bay and grasping the victory 9-2.

After falling by seven, the Rangers came back to score 16 and run rule University of Mary, 16-4, in their final game of the tournament. Regis jumped on top of Mary in the bottom of the first to score nine runs to Mary's two. Eight of the nine Rangers in the lineup scored once in the first inning with Heronema scoring twice. Regis scored four in the fourth and three in the fifth to total for 16 runs.

Accounting for all of the runs were 15 Regis hits on just 29 at bats. Heronema went 4-for-4 on the game with two triples and two singles, senior Jackie Martinez went 2-for-2 with two walks, Adami went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a triple, and sophomore Emily Anderson went 2-for-4 with a triple.

So far on the season, Heronema is leading the Rangers batting .524 with 33 hits in 64 at bats. In all of these at bats she has tallied only one strike out.  Adami is batting .389 as a freshman and has 21 hits in 54 at bats. Also batting in the .300 range is sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee with a .302 average having 13 hits in 43 at bats.

Regis will play New Mexico Highlands at the Regis Softball Field on Feb. 28th. Game times are set for noon and two.
