Rangers Split in RMAC/NSIC Crossover
Denver, Colo.: Regis opened their RMAC/NSIC Crossover Tournament debut with a split on Friday. The Rangers opened with an 8-1 victory in their first game against Southwest Minnesota State before falling 10-3 to Winona State.
In their first game, the Rangers (5-6) scored their first run of the game in the second inning after senior Jackie Martinez scored on an error by Southwest Minnesota. Martinez reached first after hitting one through the left side. After two Ranger outs, freshman Maegan Cooley hit a fly to the centerfielder who misplayed the ball bringing in Martinez for the first run of the game.
Regis scored six runs, three in two consecutive innings, in the fifth and sixth innings before both teams scored one in the seventh. Sophomore Jamie Winsor started the fifth inning by doubling to left center before freshman Natalie Adami followed up with a double of her own to right center. Martinez came up to bring in both runners and herself for three RBI's on a homer over the left field fence.
In the sixth, freshman Nikki Haberkorn singled through the left side to start the inning before pinch hitter, freshman Cassie Long, walked after pinch hitting for sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee. Sophomore Alisa Heronema bunted to third for a single to fill the bases before Adami tripled to clear the bases.
Following the two three run innings, both teams scored one in the seventh to end the game 8-1 in Regis' favor.
Coming off of a seven run victory, Regis faced No. 9 ranked Winona State. Regis held the Warriors to three scoreless innings before Winona scored five in the fourth. They scored one more in the fifth while Regis scored two.
Junior Maureen McDaniel started off the inning with a single to centerfield. Haberkorn sacraficed McDaniel to second before Heronema's single advanced her to third. Heronema advanced to second on the throw placing runners at second and third with Winsor up. Winsor singled to right center to bring in both McDaniel and Heronema.
Regis scored one more in the sixth while Winona scored one in the sixth and three in seventh. The game ended in Winona's favor 10-3.
The Rangers will face Minnesota State Mankato and Augustana on Saturday.
