Rangers Split in Second Day of Series with Chadron State
Denver, Colo.: After a split in Saturday’s doubleheader, Sunday seemed to be a rerun. The Rangers fell in game one 9-3 before defeating the Chadron State Eagles 2-0 in game two.
Along with the first pitch came the tone for the first game. With a first pitch homerun in the top of the first by Chadron State’s Cassie Humphrey the Eagles took a one run lead. That lead extended to seven by the top of the fourth as the Eagles tallied three more home runs accounting for four of their total runs up to that point. Haberkorn was relieved by sophomore Bianca Holley after pitching 3.1 innings.
The Rangers had three scoreless innings before scoring two in the bottom of the fourth to come within five of the Eagles. Sophomore Alisa Heronema walked to start off the inning before Jamie Winsor singled to the pitcher on a bunt. Freshman Natalie Adami singled up the middle to bring both runners in.
Regis tacked one more run onto their previous two in the bottom of the sixth. Heronema reached first on an error before advancing on Winsor’s sacrifice. She advanced to third on a wild pitch before Adami grounded out to the first baseman unassisted to bring her in.
Chadron State scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to set the score at 9-3 in their favor. With the Rangers unable to score in the bottom of the inning, this was the final score of game one. Haberkorn recorded the loss and falls to 13-9. She allowed seven runs on seven hits while fanning five and walking two. Holley gave up two runs on four hits while striking out five.
Game two went scoreless for three innings before Regis took a two run lead in the bottom of the fourth. Heronema reached first on a bunt single before Adami sailed one over the left field fence for a two run homer.
These two runs led Holley and the Rangers to a 2-0 shutout over the Eagles. Holley allowed eight hits and fanned five.
On the day, freshman Natalie Adami went an impressive 3-for-6 with all five of Regis’ RBI’s. Heronema went 2-for-4.
Regis will play their next games on April 18th and 19th against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at the Regis Softball Field. The first pitch is set for noon on the 18th.
