Rangers Finish 3-2 in Beaumont, Calif. Tallying 22 Runs
Denver, Colo.: The Rangers return from Beaumont, Calif. after five games in two days with three victories and two losses. Regis fell in their first game of the weekend on Feb. 14th to CSU Monterey Bay 8-0 before grabbing two wins. Their first win came against Academy of Art, 2-1, and their second win was over Notre Dame de Namur 7-0. The following day the Rangers went 1-1 falling 4-1 in their first game against Notre Dame de Namur and claiming their third victory on the weekend over UC San Diego 12-3.
In Regis' (4-5) first game of the weekend, freshman Nikki Haberkorn started on the mound and pitched a total of 2.2 innings. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits. Sophomore Bianca Holley came in to pitch 1.1 innings before the game ended after five innings of play. CSU Monterey Bay scored three in the first inning, four in the second, and one in the third to total for eight runs.
The Rangers totaled only four hits in the game, two of which came from sophomore Alisa Heronema. Heronema went 2-for-3, sophomore Jamie Winsor went 1-for-1, and junior Maureen McDaniel went 1-for-2.
After falling to Monterey Bay, the Rangers claimed a one run victory, 2-1, over Academy of Art. All of the runs scored in the game were scored in the second inning. Academy of Art started off the top of the second scoring one run on a leadoff walk. The Rangers fought back in the bottom of the second scoring two which would eventually win them the game. Freshman Maegan Cooley started off the inning with a single and was advanced to second on a single by Holley. McDaniel doubled scoring both Cooley and Holley which gave the Rangers the win. Freshman pitcher Natalie Adami was the winning pitcher.
After a 1-1 start, Regis snagged another win on Saturday this time scoring seven to Notre Dame de Namur's zero runs. The Rangers scored three in the third and four in the fourth while shutting out Notre Dame for all seven innings. In the bottom of the third, sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee reached first after being hit by a pitch. Aragon-Autobee advanced to second on a single by Heronema before both runners advanced one base on a sacrafice by Winsor. Adami reached first on an error that scored Aragon-Autobee and advanced Heronema to third. Senior Jackie Martinez tripled scoring Heronema and Adami before two strikeouts ended the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth sophomore Emily Anderson singled before advancing to second on a sacrafice by freshman Cassie Long. Anderson got out at second on a fielders choice that allowed Aragon-Autobee to reach first. Heronema tripled to score Aragon-Autobee before being scored herself on a single by Winsor. Adami then doubled to advance Winsor to third before Martinez tripled to score both of them. Haberkorn popped up to end the inning.
In the third and the fourth inning the Rangers totaled seven runs and shut out Notre Dame grabbing a 7-0 victory to end the day 2-1.
On Feb. 15th the Rangers faced Notre Dame de Namur once again this time falling to them 4-1. Notre Dame started off the the bottom of the first by scoring one run to take the lead. Regis answered back in the top of the third before Notre Dame scored three more in the botttom of the inning to total four runs. Neither team could get a run across the plate leaving the score 4-1 in Notre Dame's favor.
Regis claimed one more victory before heading back to Colorado. This time they scored 12 runs and held UC San Diego to only three. Regis scored six in the top of the third, two in the fifth, and and four in the sixth to end the game in six innings. UC San Diego matched the Rangers in the fifth scoring also scoring two. They scored one in the sixth but could not get enough runners across the plate to push the game into the final seventh inning.
Now 4-5, the Rangers will play next in the Crossover Tournament in Colorado Springs on Feb. 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
