Rangers Split with Adams State in Two One Run Differential Games
Denver, Colo.: After two days of cancelled games due to snow, Regis faced Adams State on Monday at Metro State. Both teams split on the day with both games having a one run differential. The Rangers stole the first game 8-7 before the Grizzlies snagged game two 6-5.
To start off the first game Adams State (13-10, 12-6 RMAC) scored the first run in the top of the first inning. Regis (25-16, 17-9 RMAC) quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning tying the score at one. After two up two down, freshman Natalie Adami stepped up to the plate and for the Rangers homering to left centerfield for the run.
The Grizzlies scored one more in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead over the Rangers. Two scoreless inning sent the game into the fifth. After holding Adams State to zero runs in the top of the inning, Regis scored three runs on five hits. Starting off the inning with a double to right field was sophomore Jamie Winsor. After freshman Jen Mosqueda came in to run for Winsor, an out was called for leaving early on the pitch.
With one out Adami walked before advancing to second on a fielders choice by senior Jackie Martinez. A single to center field by freshman Cassie Long scored Adami before sophomore Emily Anderson homered to centerfield to bring in two more runs. Adding two more singles to the inning were freshmen Maegan Cooley and Nikki Haberkorn. A fielders choice by sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee brought the inning to a close.
Adams State was able to get one run across in the top of the sixth before Regis crossed three more over the plate in the bottom to take a 7-3 lead. That lead diminished quickly as the Grizzlies scored four in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 7. With Regis unable to score in the bottom of the inning the game went into the eigth inning. After holding Adams State to zero runs in the top of the inning Regis scored one in the bottom for the victory.
Sophomore Alissa Heronema walked to lead off the inning. Winsor sacraficed her over to second before she advanced to third on the throw. A single to left field by Adami scored Heronema for the win. Nikki Haberkorn recorded the win for Regis and is now 13-6.
Coming off of a one run ball game, neither team could score in the first two innigs of the second game. The Grizzlies scored the first run in the top of the third before Regis scored three in the bottom of the fourth. Taking advantage of Grizzly errors, the Rangers scored three runs on just one hit and three errors.
Adams State scored one more in the top of the fifth and and three in the sixth. Regis came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 5. The seventh went scoreless taking the game into extra innings. Neither team scored in the eigth before Adams State scored one in the top of the ninth. Regis was unable to match the Grizzlies run ending the game in the ninth 6-5 in favor of Adams State. Recording the loss for Regis was Haberkorn who fell to 13-7.
Regis will face Chadron State in four conference matchups on April 10th and 11th. The first pitch is set for noon on the 10th at the Regis Softball Field.
