Ranger Men's and Women's Cross Country Runs at Rocky Mountain Shootout
Boulder, Colo.: Today's Rocky Mountain shootout was one of the better mornings of the season to run a cross country race. Chilly temperatures greeted the runners but when the sun broke it was perfect conditions for good times.
The Regis women's team finished fifth out of 11 non-division I teams, while the men finished in ninth place. Mesa State took the women's crown while Garden City (Kan.) Community College won on the men's side.
Junior Matthew Drake paced the men's team finishing in 30th place with a time of 28:48 over the 8 kilometer course. Senior Sid White wasn't far behind in 32nd place finishing in a time of 28:56. Three freshman finished back-to-back-to-back in 59th, 60th and 61st place. Andrew Tier had a time of 31:47, while John Brooks and Chris Kading finished in times of 31:54 and 32:12 respectively.
Gabe Proctor of Garden City CC was the individual medalist finishing in a time of 25:51.

The women were led by freshman Amanda Derby's 13th place finish. Derby covered the 5 kilometers in 23 minutes and 43 seconds. Junior Sonja Nelson finished 22nd with a time of 24:37, while sophomore Samantha Comerci had a time of 24:49 good for 27th place.
Senior Deanne Richert finished one second later than Comerci in 28th place, while sophomore Karoline Garren was one second behind Richert at 24:51. Senior Whitney Unterreiner came in 36th at 25:21, with junior Kelsey Schmidt rounding out the Rangers finishing in 38th place with a time of 25:23.

The women's team will have off until the RMAC Championships on October 24th at Washington Park in Southeast Denver. The men's team will travel to Hays, Kan. to take part in the Tiger Open next Saturday, Oct. 10th.
