Ranger Harriers Finish Season at NCAA Division II Central Region Championships
Wayne, Neb.: In the toughest region in NCAA Division II, the Regis Ranger cross country teams had an uphill battle to climb against schools from the Rocky Mountain Athletic and Northern Sun Intercollegiate conferences. The Regis women finished in 17th place, while the men finished 19th overall.
Adams State again swept the team titles on both the men's and women's races, while fellow RMAC powerhouse Western State finished in second place in both races.
The Regis women were paced by freshman Amanda Derby and her 53rd place finish. She covered the 6 kilometer course in 23:47.7, nearly two minutes faster than her time at the RMAC Championships two weeks ago.
Junior Sonja Nelson placed next for the Rangers in 79th place with a time of 24:37.4, while sophomore Karoline Garren came in 86th place crossing the finish line in a time of 24:46.9. Junior Kelsey Schmidt finished just 0.7 seconds after Garren and senior Deanna Richert was in 97th place with a time of 25:04.9.
Sophomore Samantha Comerci bested her RMAC Championships time by over a minute breaking the tape in a time of 25 minutes and 12 seconds. Senior Whitney Unterreiner had a time of 25:54.3 to round out the Regis women's team.
Morgan Place of Minnesota-Duluth won the individual title with a 23:40.8 clocking.

For the first time this season the men ran a 10 kilometer race. Junior Matthew Drake led the men with a 36:29.3 clocking, while freshman Andrew Tier turned in his best race of the season finishing in a time of 38:26.7.
Freshman John Brooks was next for Regis in a time of 38:54.8 followed by fellow freshman Christian Pedroza's 40:03.9. Freshman Chris Kading rounded out the Rangers scoring with a time of 41:11.2.
Brian Medigovich of Adams State won the individual championship in a time of 30:57.2.
