Regis XC Runners Compete in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships

Denver, Colo.: In one of the toughest if not the toughest cross country conferences in NCAA Division II, the Regis Rangers had to compete against defending national champions Adams State and other teams that are ranked in the top 10 nationally.  The Regis women finished in 9th place while the men came in 11th.

Adams State swept both the men's and women's team races with 20 and 29 points respectively.

The Regis women were again led by freshman Amanda Derby, who covered the 6 kilometer course at Washington Park in southeast Denver, in a time of 25:39 good for 44th place.  Junior Sonja Nelson finished well in a time of 25:52 to finish in 47th place.  Nine seconds later teammate sophomore Karoline Garren crossed the finish line, while junior Kelsey Schmidt broke the tape in 26 minutes and 10 seconds.  Seven seconds later and in 59th place, sophomore Samantha Comerci finished the course.

Senior Whitney Unterreiner and freshman Catilin O'Brien, competing in her first meet of the season, came across the finish line in times of 26:41 and 27:05 respectively.

Kristen McGlyn of Adams State took home the RMAC individual title in a time of 22:25.

Senior Sid White paced the men's team with a 64th place finish in a time of 29:17 over the 8 kilometer course.  Junior Matthew Drake crossed the finish line just three seconds later in 65th place.  A quartet of Rangers finished consecutively starting with freshman John Brooks' time of 31:53.  Fellow freshman Christian Pedroza, Chris Kading and Andrew Tier finished in times of 32:13, 33:37 and 33:40 respectively.

Reuben Mwei of Adams State won the RMAC individual title in a time of 24:42.

Both teams will compete in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships in Wayne, Neb. in two weeks, Saturday, Nov. 7th.
