Ranger Men's and Women's Cross Country Compete Against Top Teams in the Nation at Moutaineer Open

Gunnison, Colo.: The Regis men's and women's cross country teams competed against two of the top teams in the nation at this morning's Mountaineer Open.  Both the men's and women's teams finished in third place with the men finishing with 78 points and the women with 66 points.

The men's team race was won by Western State, who is ranked #2 by the USTFCCCA, with 19 points.  The number one team in the nation, Adams State, finished in second place with 38 points.

The top two runners for the Regis men were junior Matthew Drake and senior Sid White.  Drake finished in 22nd place with a time of 26:50.08, while White was right behind in 23rd place covering the 7.4 km course in 26:53.02.

The women's race was won by Mesa State who is ranked 16th in the country.  They finished with 26 points, while the host Moutaineers of Western State, who are ranked 4th by the USTFCCCA finished second with 40 points.

Freshman Amanda Derby led the Rangers with a 12th place finish covering the 5 kilometer course in a time of 20:40.78.  Fellow freshman Kari Garren ran the race in a time of 21:42.27 to finish in 22nd place.
