Ranger Men Tabbed Fourth in RMAC Preseason Men's Soccer Poll; Emge and Cole Tabbed Preseason All-RMAC
Colorado Springs, Colo.: The nine head coaches in the RMAC picked the Regis Rangers to finish in fourth place in the preseason men's soccer coaches poll. Regis garnered 30 points while defending NCAA Division II National Champions Fort Lewis is picked to repeat with eight points. Senior Gary Cole and junior Kyle Emge are picked on the preseason All-RMAC team.
Colorado Mines is picked to finish second with 18 points, while Metro St. is right behind in third with 19 points. Regis is coming off a season in which they finished in fourth place and fell to Fort Lewis in the first round of the RMAC tournament. The Rangers compiled a 9-6-4 overall record in head coach Tony McCall's first season, while going 7-3-4 in conference action.
Emge, from Fort Collins, Colo., who's size and athleticism made for troubles for the opponent's defenses was second on the team with six goals while starting in 15 games. He led the Rangers with three game-winning goals and was fourth on the team with 13 points. He was named to the All-RMAC Second Team following his sophomore season in 2009.
Cole, from Englewood, Colo., has played at Regis for two seasons after transferring from Division I Vermont University. Last season he earned First Team All-RMAC honors, for the second time, after the junior helped the Rangers to six shutouts on the season. The six shutouts rank the Rangers fourth in the RMAC and he has helped the Rangers to an anemic 1.11 goals against average, also fourth in the RMAC. Cole started all 19 games for Regis last season. He was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region First Team and the NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team in 2009.
Regis will begin their season on the road as they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to take on Upper Iowa on September 3rd and host Mary University on September 5th.
