Rangers Outshoot Crusaders 20 to 9 to Snag 6-2 Victory
Denver, Colo.: Outshooting Northwest Nazarene 20 to nine, Regis snagged a 6-2 victory at home on Saturday. Kyle Emge and Jordan Brandel had two goals each while Lucas Mazier and Nathan Kafer each had one.
Regis took an early lead a short 7:43 into the game when Donnie Montoya dribbled in from the right wing and crossed to Emge just in front of the net. Emge took the shot for goal number one.
At the 19:11 mark, Regis' Lucas Mazier took a penalty kick to put another goal on the board for the Rangers. Northwest Nazarene answered back just over ten minutes later when Renatto Brito served a direct free kick to teammate Nate Hamm who chipped the ball passed Ranger golie Wally Fink.
Before the closing of the first half, Regis increased their lead to 3-1 with two and a half minutes remaining in the period. Emge provided a rerun from his previous goal, this time Kafer had the assist, when he scored on a cross from just in front of the Crusaders' net.
The second half began and went scoreless for about nine minutes until Kafer scored his first goal of the season. Ben Buhler assisted on the play. Northwest Nazarene's Alonso Avila decided to decrease that 3 goal deficit to two when he sneaked a penalty kick past Fink at the 59:55 mark to set the score at 4-2.
Regis scored their fifth goal when Kafer served the ball to Brandel from midfield. Crusaders goalie Alexander Engemann left the box to retrieve the pass when Brandel reached the ball first and was able to tap it past him and into Northwest Nazarene's net.
Brandel scored once more at the 74:24 mark to give the Rangers a 6-2 lead. This would be the last goal of the game allowing Regis to claim the victory over Northwest Nazarene.
Regis will play Northeastern State in their next matchup on Sept. 4th. The Rangers will travel to Oklahoma and kickoff at 4:00 p.m. (CT).
