Outshooting the Marauders 24 to 4 is not Enough for the Rangers as They Fall 2-1 to Mary University
Denver, Colo.: While Regis' offense was strong, as the Rangers kept the ball in Marauder turf for much of the game, their 24 shots to Mary's four was not enough. Regis fell 2-1 to Mary on Thursday in their season opener and head coach Tony McCall's first game as a Ranger.
The first goal of the game was not scored until the 27:13 mark when Mary's Nicola Nikolic was assisted by Ben Houdek in heading the ball into the Ranger's net. Goal two was scored a short three minutes later when Regis freshman Lucas Mazier scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half. About 32 minutes into the second half, the Marauders took the lead 2-1. Nikolic was again the culprit. He was assisted by Jose Pacego on the play.
With about 13 minutes left in the game, Regis attempted five shots but was unable to find the net falling to Mary 2-1.
Regis will face Northwest Nazarene in their next game on Saturday at the Regis Match Pitch. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
