Ranger Men's Soccer Tied with #4 Ranked Fort Lewis 1-1 at Halftime, but Fall 3-1
Durango, Colo.: The Regis Ranger men's soccer
team was knotted at halftime with #4 ranked Fort Lewis but when the
final buzzer sounded Fort Lewis defeated the pesky Rangers 3-1.
Regis (8-4-4, 6-2-4) lost just their second RMAC contest of the
season with the only other loss coming to this same Fort Lewis team
1-0 on October 9th.
The Rangers got on the board first when senior Donnie Montoya
scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick at the 10:02
mark of the first half.
Fort Lewis (15-1, 12-0), who will host the 2009 RMAC Men's Soccer
Tournament in two weeks, tied the game eight minutes later when
David Barden headed the ball to Joe Barnd who put the ball past the
Ranger defenders.
Regis had a few chances in the second half with four shots and two
shots on goal. Fort Lewis scored the winning goal just 26 seconds
into the second half.
Even with the loss, the Rangers are guaranteed a spot in the 2009
RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament. Where they will finish is still up
for grabs. Colorado Mines is second with 28 points just needs one
victory to secure second place. Metro State is just one point ahead
of Regis with 23 points. Regis and Metro State both have games
against Colorado Mines remaining and games against Colorado
Christian. Regis could finish anywhere from second to fourth
place.
Regis will host Colorado Christian on Friday afternoon at 3:30 in
the Rangers final home game of the season.
