Rangers Pitch Second Consecutive Shutout with 3-0 Win over CSU-Pueblo
Denver, Colo.: As the weather warmed this today so did the Ranger offense. Regis scored three goals, their third highest total of the season, and shutout CSU-Pueblo 3-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
This is the second time this season that the Rangers defeated CSU-Pueblo after the Rangers 2-1 win on September 18th.
Regis (7-3-4, 5-1-4 RMAC) got on the board at the 25:00 mark when senior James Copeland scored his sixth goal of the season.
The Rangers were in control much of the game as they outshot CSU-Pueblo (6-9, 2-8 RMAC) 21-13 and shots on goal 10-4.
The game remained at 1-0 until sophomore Jordan Brandel went by his defender and hit a blast into the upper left corner for his third goal of the season. Regis didn't stop there as just with over two minutes remaining when sophomore Ben Buhler took a great cross from freshman Ryan Rombach from right to left and headed it in for his third goal of the season.
The Rangers spread the offensive wealth out as 10 of the 18 that played for Regis had at least one shot. Copeland had five shots, while junior Nathan Kafer and senior Donnie Montoya took four shots apiece.
Senior Wally Fink posted his third shutout of the season and his second in a row saving four shots and facing 13. With the shutout, Fink now moves into a tie for fourth place on the all-time Regis career shutout list with six.
Regis currently sits in fourth place in the RMAC, which takes the top four teams to the postseason tournament, one point behind Metro State and three behind Colorado Mines.
Regis will now travel to Grand Junction to take on Mesa State on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
