Rangers Fall 81-55 to #15 Metro State in Season Finale

Denver, Colo.: (By Dylan Docker) The Regis men concluded the 2011-2012 basketball season Saturday night with an 81-55 road loss to the Roadrunners of 15th-ranked Metro State College.

The Rangers (5-21, 2-20 RMAC) fought hard to take early control in the first half. With the score tied at six the Roadrunners (22-5, 17-5 RMAC) scored eight unanswered points to build a 14-6 lead. Sophomore forward Jon Conley, freshman guard Dylan King, and junior guard Breen Weeks each nailed three-pointers to put Regis back in the game.

However, with the score at 20-18 and 12:02 remaining, Metro State shooters maintained their attack to eventually build a double-digit lead. The Roadrunners brought a 40-29 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The home team posted a 13-0 run midway through the second half to take permanent control. Metro State senior guard Reggie Evans accounted for eight points during that span.

Seven second-half points from junior guard Dionte Goodlett were not enough to keep Regis close. Metro State went on for the 81-55 victory to close out the season.

Goodlett had 11 points on the night in 34 minutes of play. Sophomore forward Jon Conley scored 10 points of his own and collected four total rebounds.

With 305 total points, Goodlett claims the Regis scoring title for the 2011-2012 season. Goodlett also led the Rangers with 54 assists. Junior forward Demitrius Owens, who was the only Regis player to start all 26 games, ended the year with 209 total rebounds and 39 steals to lead the team in both categories.
