Ranger Men Shoot 54 Percent but Can't Overcome Balanced Scoring in 84-73 Loss to Colorado Mines
Denver, Colo.: Regis shot 54 percent from the field but allowed Colorado Mines to shoot 56 percent in an 84-73 Oredigger victory.
Regis (7-12, 2-9 RMAC) trailed for most of the first half but was able to tie the score five times and went into halftime trailing 40-36.
Regis tied the score again for the seventh and final time after a layup by junior guard Curtis Mitchell at the 12:37 mark. Colorado Mines stymied the Rangers over the next two and a half minutes outscoring Regis 7-0 and continued building their lead after that. Just when the Rangers would go on a small run and cut the lead to a manageable point, the Orediggers always had an answer.
The taller Mines team outrebounded the Rangers 34-20 in the game. Each team did a good job of taking care of the ball with Mines turning it over 10 times and Regis just nine.
Senior guard Matt Rosinski led the Rangers with 24 points raising his season average to an even 23 points per game. Coming into the weekend, Rosinski was the second leading scorer in the RMAC and the 11th in the nation. He led the Rangers with four assists.
Mitchell had another solid game tallying 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while junior Jordan Martinez-Doublin came off the bench to contribute 15 as well. Sophomore Chris Johansen led Regis with seven rebounds and chipped in with nine points.
Sean Armstrong and Dale Minschwaner led the Orediggers with 23 and 21 points respectively one night after upsetting #20 ranked Metro State 67-65.
Regis will take their act to the road as they travel to take on Chadron State on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
