Regis Men Take 35-32 Lead into Halftime but Can't Hold on as Mesa State Prevails 74-61

Grand Junction, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and led 35-32 at halftime but Mesa State shot almost 70 percent in the second half to claim a 74-61 victory in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Regis (2-3, 0-3 RMAC) led the entire first half including by as many as nine point midway through the first half.  The Rangers led for the first four and a half minutes of the second half before Mesa State (7-0, 3-0 RMAC) went on an 11-0 run to claim the lead.  They never looked and led by as many as 16 points en route to the 74-61 victory.

Senior guard Matt Rosinski had 17 of his 24 points before halftime.  Rosinski hit on 7-of-12 from the field in the first half but just 2-of-12 in the final stanza.  Sophomore Chris Johansen had career highs with eight points and eight rebounds, while senior Alex Potts came off the bench to chip in with seven points.

It was a tale of two halves for Regis as they connected on 56 percent from the field in the first half and just 30 percent in the second.  Mesa finished the game hitting on 63.6 percent from the field.

Jase Herl led the Mavericks with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Dominguez chipped in with 16 points.

Regis will play a rare Sunday game as they travel to Gunnison, Colo. to take on Western State tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
