18-2 Run by Chadron State Dooms the Rangers in 71-57 Loss

Chadron, Neb.: An 18-2 run midway through the first half by Chadron State doomed the Regis Rangers in a 71-57 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss to the Eagles. 

Regis (7-13, 2-10 RMAC) led 12-8 with 15:41 after a three-point play by senior guard Matt Rosinski.  It took the Rangers almost five minutes before they scored another point and in that time Chadron State (8-11, 6-6 RMAC) had scored nine points, the Eagles then scored the next nine points to take a 26-14 lead with 8:52 remaining.

The Rangers were able to cut the lead to nine points a couple of times including after Stevie Ledesma's layup with six seconds remaining in the first half to make the score 33-24.

The Eagles scored the first four points of the second half and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the way.  The Rangers did cut it to 65-55 with 2:49 and again with 1:29 remaining but was unable to make one final push at the Eagles.

The Regis bench was outscored by Chadron State's bench 27-8 and outscored in the paint 42-26.

The Ranger offense sputtered into just 1-of-10 shooting from long range and committed an uncharacteristic 18 turnovers.

Rosinski was the lone scorer in double figures with 24 points while collecting a game-high four steals.  Sophomore Chris Johansen and junior Curtis Mitchell each chipped in with nine points.

Regis shot well from the free throw line, 80 percent, going 12-for-15.

Moala Tautuaa led Chadron State with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  Donte Archie chipped in with 13 points for the Eagles.

The Rangers will travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Lopers on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. central time.
