Regis Men's Basketball Falls to Division I Colorado State 74-65 in Exhibition
Fort Collins, Colo.: The Regis Ranger men's basketball team got their 2009-10 season underway against Division I Colorado State in the Rangers first of two exhibition games. Regis stuck with the Rams most of the way before falling 74-65.
Regis held a slim 11-10 lead with 13:01 remaining after a jumper by junior transfer Curtis Mitchell. The Rams then went on a 14-4 run to take a nine-point lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half. The lead stretched to as many as 14 points, but the Rangers were able to cut the score to 10, 38-28, at half.
The Rangers were able to get as close as six points, 45-39, at the 15:14 mark after a jumper by senior guard Matt Rosinski. Rosinski finished the game with 16 points but was outdone by teammate Mitchell who had a game-high 21 points.
The Rams kept the lead in double figures most of the way before Regis scored the last four points of the game all on layups by sophomore guard Myron Sanders to make the final score 74-65.
Regis kept care of the ball well with just seven turnovers while forcing CSU into 15. Regis was also efficient at the free throw line going 17-for-21 (81 percent).
Joining Mitchell and Rosinski in double figures was Jordan Martinez-Doublin with 14 points. Rosinski paced the Rangers with four assists, while four players, Rosinski, Doublin-Martinez, junior guard Stevie Ledesma and sophomore guard Chris Johansen each tallied four rebounds.
Regis will travel to Laramie, Wyo. to take on the Cowboys of the University of Wyoming on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
