Rangers Postseason Hopes Vanish with 80-48 Loss to Colorado Christian; Rosinski Scores 1,000th Career Point
Lakewood, Colo.: With tonight's 80-48 loss to Colorado Christian, the Regis University men's basketball team finds itself mathematically eliminated from RMAC postseason contention. It is the second straight season that the Rangers have not made the RMAC Shootout. Regis senior guard Matt Rosinski became the ninth player in Regis history to eclipse 1,000 points finishing the eventing with 21 points and now has exactly 1,000 career points in just under two seasons.
Regis (7-16, 2-13 RMAC) led 6-4 early but over a 10 minute span Regis was only able to score six points and trailed 27-12 with 6:00 remaining in the first half. Colorado Christian (10-12, 8-7 RMAC) led 35-23 at halftime.
The Cougars began the second half on an 11-1 run and never looked back. Trailing 55-40 with 8:16 remaining in the game Colorado Christian closed the door on the Regis season by holding the Rangers to just eight points over that time and scoring 25 points to take the victory 80-48.
The Rangers were outrebounded 43-23 and allowed CCU to shoot 64 percent in the deciding second half. Regis hit just 1-of-19 from three-point range and shot just seven free throws. The Rangers did a good job of holding onto the ball committing just 11 turnovers forcing the Cougars into 15.
Rosinski was joined in double figures by sophomore Chris Johansen's 12 points and game-high nine rebounds. Junior Curtis Mitchell chipped in with seven points.
Jobi Wall had game highs of 25 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars. Justin Neuhaus had 22 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
Regis will host Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. at the Regis Fieldhouse.
