Regis Men's Basketball Head Coach Lonnie Porter adds Six to Roster for 2010-11 Season
Denver, Colo.: Longtime Regis Men's Head Basketball Coach Lonnie Porter today announces the signing of six new players to the roster for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Slobodan Jovanovic, Lance Korell, Urald King, Ben Perry, Brandon Maclellan, and Tyler Putz will all be a part of the men's basketball team next year.
Jovanovic is a 6-5 forward Subotica,
Serbia and will have three years of eligibility after transferring
from Central Wyoming College. A graduate Gimnazija "Svetozar Markovic" High School where he
averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game and was named second
team all-region. Jovanovic played during the 2008-09 season
at the Riverton, Wyo. junior college where he averaged almost four
points per game and shot 50 percent from the field.
Korell, coming to Regis from Eaton, Colo., is a transfer student from Eastern Wyoming College. Prior to attending Eastern Wyoming, Korell graduated from Eaton High School where he was named all-conference and all-state two times. In 2007, he helped lead his team to the Class 3A State Championship. He led Eastern Wyoming in scoring last season at 12.3 ppg connecting on 66 three-point baskets.
King is a forward from West Monroe, La. where he graduated from West Monroe High School in 2009. While at West Monroe, he received honorable mention honors during his junior and senior seasons and helped lead his team to the final four during his senior season. He transfers here from Eastern Arizona College to study Business at Regis. He averaged 9.5 ppg at Eastern Arizona while connecting on 52.6 percent from the floor. The sophomore to be led Eastern Arizona with a 7.7 rebound per game average.
Coming all the way from Australia to join the Rangers is Ben Perry who is transfering from Miles Community College in Mont. A 2007 graduate from Lake Ginninderra High School, Perry averaged 23.8 ppg and eight rpg in high school. Then in 2008-09, he was named to the Mon-Dak All-Academic Team while at Miles Community College. The 6-4 junior forward averaged 9.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season at Miles CC.
Maclellan, a 2008 graduate of Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Ariz., comes to Denver from his hometown of Hereford, Ariz. While at Buena HS where he averaged 17 ppg and eight rpg, Maclellan was named Southern Arizona's Player of the Year, First Team All-State, and First Team All-Region. The 6-4 junior forward then continued his basketball career at Cochise Community College where he averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season.
From Forest City, Iowa is Putz, who will be graduating from Forest City High School this year. At Forest City HS he averaged 24.3 ppg, 6.2 apg, and three steals per game. During his freshman and sophomore seasons he was named to the All-Conference Team while also being named Third Team All-State his sophomore year. His junior and senior seasons he was named the Conference MVP and First Team All-State.
