Rangers Lose Tight One to UCCS 92-91 in Season Finale
Colorado Springs, Colo.: Regis finished the 2008-09 season narrowly being defeated by UC-Colorado Springs 92-91 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Rangers finish teh season 7-20 and 4-15 in the RMAC.
Regis fell behind early but kept it to within single digits for the first 11 minutes. The Rangers were down by as many as 16 points with 5:19 remaining in the first half. Regis finished the first half on an 18-6 run fueled by five layups including a tomahawk dunk by junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros. UC-Colorado Springs (10-16, 10-8 RMAC) led at halftime 45-41.
In the second half, Regis stayed within single digits of UCCS, but couldn't get over the preverbial hump. However, with 19 seconds remaining after a jumper by junior forward Alex Potts, Regis was within two. Jordan McClung went 1-of-2 for UCCS, the Rangers looked to junior guard Matt Rosinski, who had 25 points on the night on the ensuing possession, his three-point attempt was off. McClung went to the line again and connected on both free throws to put the Mountain Lions up five with nine seconds remaining.
Rosinski this time connected on his three pointer to cut the lead to two again with four seconds remaing. Ben Feilmeier connected on both pressure free throws for UCCS to seal the victory. Freshman guard John Everhart hit a three-point bomb as time expired to make the final tally 92-91.
Regis forced UC-Colorado Springs into 20 turnovers on the night but was outshot from the free throw line 48-23 with the Rangers connecting on nearly 83 percent of their charity attempts.
Rosinski led the Rangers with 25, while senior guards Andy Pokorny and Gabriel Green finished their Ranger career chipping in with 11 points apiece.
UCCS was led in scoring by Feilmeier's 24 points, 12 of which came from the free throw line.
