Rangers Fall 86-73 to New Mexico Highlands; Jason Burke-Kavros Notches Career-High 21 Points

Denver, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team fell 86-73 to New Mexcio Highlands in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at the Regis Fieldhouse.  Junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros notched his career high with 21 points.

The first half was tightly contested as both teams forged seven ties in the first half.  The two teams put their athleticism on showcase with numerous highlight reel dunks.  Regis (5-9, 2-4 RMAC) trailed by two (38-36) going into the break.

New Mexico Highlands (11-3, 4-1 RMAC) went on a 10-3 run to start the second half to take a 48-39 lead.  Regis responded with an 11-2 run to forge the eighth tie of the game at 50 with 11:51 remaining in the game.  Over the next three minutes their were three more ties and neither team led by more than three points.

The Cowboys led 64-63 with 7:05 remaining and blew open the game going on a 9-1 run over the next two and a half minutes and the Ranger defense couldn't hold down the high potent Cowboys offense the rest of the way as they scored on their last six possessions.

Kavros' 21 points was a game-high as he hit on 9-of-17 shots.  He led three other Rangers in double figures including senior guard Andy Pokorny who came off the bench to notch 13 points.  Junior guard Matt Rosinski had 12 points, while junior forward Bill Brandenburg had 10 points and snatched a game-high eight rebounds.

New Mexico Highlands had all five starters in double figures led by Roman Andrande's 18 points.

Regis returns to action on Saturday night as they host CSU-Pueblo at the Regis Fieldhouse with tip time set for 7 PM.
