Rangers Snap Five-Game Skid with Thrilling 68-66 Defeat of Colorado Mines

Denver, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team used a 19-4 run midway through the second half to defeat Colorado Mines 68-66.  With the win, Regis snaps a five-game skid to keep their hopes alive for a berth to the RMAC Tournament.

Regis (7-16, 4-11 RMAC) and Mines (11-12, 6-9 RMAC) both had their offenses in park early in the game as neither team could find their shooting touch.  The Orediggers however, found theirs just before half and led 36-25 going into the break.

The Orediggers built their lead to as many as 17 and led by double figures for the first 10 minutes of the second half.  The Rangers did not quit however, and with a lineup that included four guards and one forward the Rangers used their quickness to pressure the Orediggers into turnovers and bad shots.

Regis trailed 54-39 with 13:52 left when they found their shooting touch.  Regis subsequently went on a 19-4 run to tie the game at 58 with 6:09 remaining after a Gabriel Green jumper.  The lead seesawed back and forth the rest of the way and the final tie came with just 1:06 remaining after Sean Armstrong knotted the game for Mines.

With the shot clock running down, senior guard Andy Pokorny missed a three-pointer from the corner but freshman forward Anthony Porch put himself in good position and was able to secure the offensive rebound for the Rangers.  He was then fouled by Dale Minschwaner and Porch calmly sank both free throws to put the Rangers up two.

Colorado Mines' leading scorer Kyle Pape shot a three-pointer that was just off the mark and Regis was able to coral the rebound for their seventh victory of the season.

Junior guard Matt Rosinski led the Rangers with 18 points, while Porch chipped in with 12 points and Pokorny tallied 11.  Joseph Odugbela had 10 points and led the Rangers with four rebounds.
