Rangers Lose Tough One to 15th Ranked Metro State 70-61; Season Finale on Friday

Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger men's basketball team late run falls short as they are turned away by the 15th ranked Metro State Roadrunners tonight 70-61 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The first seven and a half minutes of the game saw the two teams swap the lead back and forth.  Regis (7-19, 4-14 RMAC) led 13-12 with 13:26 remaining but didn't score for the next 4:30 and Metro State (23-3, 17-1 RMAC) scored nine points to take a 21-13 lead.  Regis trailed at halftime 41-32 but it could have been worse as the Roadrunners shot a paltry 67 percent from the floor.  However, the Rangers stayed in the game by getting 11 offensive rebounds.

Regis went on an 8-0 run early in the second half to forge a 45-45 tie with 13:37 remaining in the game.  Regis did not score until junior guard Matt Rosinski hit a free throw with 7:05 remaining in the game.  Fortunately for Regis their defense kept them in the game as they allowed Metro State to score just seven points over that span.

Regis was unable to get any closer than four points the rest of the way and Metro State hit their free throws down the stretch to win going away 70-61.

Regis dominated the boards collecting 23 offensive and 44 total to just 27 for the visitors.  Regis was led in scoring by Rosinski's 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half.  Junior forward Joseph Odugbela had 11 points, while junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros had 10 points off the bench.

Jesse Wagstaff led Metro State with 22 points and 14 rebounds.  Marquise Carrington had 12 points and Brian Minor also chipped in with 12 points, off the bench.

Regis will finish their season up on Friday night as they travel to Colorado Springs to take on the Mountain Lions of UC-Colorado Springs at 8 PM.
