Ranger Men Fall to Cross-Town Rival Metro State 86-72

Denver, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team fell to cross-town rival Metro State at the Auraria Events Center 86-72.  The Rangers had 19 offensive rebounds and outrebounded the Roadrunners 40-34 but couldn't over come Metro State going 37-for-47 from the charity stripe.

Regis (5-11, 2-6 RMAC) fell behind 16-4 during the first five minutes.  The Rangers responded by going on a 16-5 run of their own to cut the lead to 21-20 with 9:41 left in the first half.  Metro State (13-3, 6-1 RMAC) never let the Rangers get any closer than one point the rest of the first half and in fact steadily increased their lead and led by as many as 15 points.  The intermission came with Metro State leading 43-30.

Regis cut the lead to single digits on a few ocassions in the second half but couldn't get any closer than eight points during the second half.

Regis had 22 more shot attempts than Metro State aided by the 19 offensive rebounds.  However Regis attempted just 18 free throws to the 47 for the Roadrunners.

Senior guard Andy Pokorny came off the bench and pumped in 14 points, while junior guard Matt Rosinski (13), junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros (12) and junior center Bill Brandenburg (10) all reached double figures for the Rangers.

Jesse Wagstaff had a team-high 23 points, leading four others in double figures for the RMAC East Division leading Roadrunners.

Regis will host UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday night at the Regis Fieldhouse.  Tip time is set for 7 PM.
