Rangers Even Record with 80-55 Defeat of Colorado College; Shoot 65 Percent in the Second Half
Denver, Colo.: The Regis University men's basketball team rebounded from a season-opening loss to Caldwell College where they shot just 38.5 percent with an 80-55 thumping of Colorado College. The Rangers shooting was on the mark tonight as they shot an impressive 58.3 percent from the field including 65.2 percent in the second half.
Regis (1-1) and Colorado College (1-4) played even for the first 13-plus minutes of the first half. Regis led 22-21 after two Colorado College free throws with 6:44 left in the half; the Rangers then proceeded to go on a 20-5 run the rest of the way to take a commanding 42-26 leading heading into the halftime break.
Regis stretched the lead in the second half to as many as 34 points late in the game before cruising to the 25-point victory. The Rangers forced the Tigers into 24 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 32-24 led by junior forward Isaiah Johnson's eight caroms.
Three Rangers hit double figures led by junior guard Joseph Odugbela's 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Senior guard Andy Pokorny and junior guard Matt Rosinski, who came off the bench, each poured in 16 points. Rosinski led the way with seven assists, while junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros had seven steals.
Colorado College was led in scoring by Brady Ohlsen's game-high 21 points, while Jarrell Sweet had 13 points and seven steals.
Regis will travel to Golden, Colo. to take part in the Colorado Mines Classic Friday and Saturday. They play Newman at 5:00 PM on the campus of Colorado Mines on Friday.
