Ranger Men Shoot 68 Percent in First Half, Fall to Pesky Chadron State 79-73

Denver, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team fell for the fourth straight time in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this time to Chadron State 79-73.  The Rangers jumped out to a 42-37 halftime lead helped out by the fact that the Rangers hit 68 percent (17-of-25) from the field.  However, the Rangers could not sustain that shooting touch and fell for the first time to Chadron State since the 2006-07 season.

Freshman forward Anthony Porch supplied much of the offense early on as he scored the Rangers (6-15, 3-10 RMAC) first 12 points of the game. Neither team could be stopped early on and with six ties and numerous lead changes in the first seven minutes of the game both teams were on pace for over 100 points each.

The seventh tie of the first half happened at the 4:44 mark and after senior guard Andy Pokorny had six points in a row the Rangers forged to a halftime lead of 42-37.  Keeping the Eagles in the game was the ability to get to the offensive glass.  They had nine offensive rebounds in the first half.

Regis jumped out to a 10 point lead (50-40) with 17:17 remaining but Chadron State went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to three points with 14:15 remaining.  The Rangers held a slim lead until Kevin McClelland hit a layup to give the Eagles a one-point lead with 10:33 remaining.

Chadron State held the lead until junior center Bill Brandenburg hit a layup with 4:36 remaining, the subsequent free throw by Brandenburg put the Rangers up two.  Regis led by two with 3:03 left when Stacy McAllister hit a layup to forge a 10th tie.  Neither team could score for nearly two minutes with Regis not scoring the final 3:47 of the game and Chadron State scoring six points in the final 1:11 to seal the victory.

Regis shot just 40 percent in the second half and was just 7-for-11 from the charity stripe, while Chadron State was 23-of-34.

Regis was led by Pokorny's 21 points, a season high.  Porch notched his career high with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting.  Brandenburg had 12 points and junior guard Jason Burke-Kavros chipped in with 11 points.  Leading scorer Matt Rosinski had just six points for Regis, while Pokorny led the way on the boards with six.

McAllister led the way for the Eagles with 20 points, while sophomore guard Tim McLaurin had 18.

Regis returns to action next Friday night as they host Colorado Christian at the Regis Fieldhouse with tip time set for 7 PM.
