Rangers Tumble to Chadron State 68-53
Chadron, Neb.: The Regis Ranger men's basketball team fell to Chadron State 68-53 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. With the loss, the Rangers are officially eliminated from postseason contention.
Regis (7-17, 4-12 RMAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three minutes of play but Chadron reeled the Rangers back in with an 8-0 run of their own to claim an 8-7 lead with 12:50 remaining. The two teams flip-flopped the lead back and forth and after a three pointer by Jordan Lisco the tie was scored at 13 with 10:37 remaining in the first half. Chadron State (8-16, 4-12 RMAC) was ahead by three with 4:46 remaining but were able to shut out the Rangers the rest of the way and score nine in a row to go up 33-21 at half.
The Rangers were only able to cut the lead to single digits one time in the second half and Chadron State led by as many as 19 points on two separate occassions. Chadron State out shot the Rangers 34-10 at the free throw line and that helped supply the final margin of 68-53.
Regis was led by junior forward Joseph Odugbela's 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Regis had 10 more shot attempts than Chadron (52-42) and outrebounded them 35-29, including 14 offensive rebounds. Junior guard Matt Rosinski was also in double figures with 11 points. Junior center Bill Brandenburg led all players with eight rebounds.
Marco DeSouza led all scorers with 24 points for the Eagles. He hit on six three pointers and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Christian McGhee and Tim McLaurin chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Regis will travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Lopers Saturday with game time set for 8 PM (CT).
