The 2012 baseball season will be Head Coach Dan McDermott's 12th
season at the helm of the Regis University baseball team. McDermott
assumed head coaching duties in May of 2000 after spending
1998-2000 as the Rangers' pitching coach and top assistant.
McDermott heads into the 2012 season as the all-time
winningest coach at Regis and second at Briar Cliff University in
Sioux City, Iowa.
In 11 years as the skipper of the Rangers, McDermott's teams have
gone 272-287 (.487 winning percentage). The Rangers have
posted a 136-127 (.517) home record over that same time, including
17 wins in 2009, the most by any Regis team since McDermott took
over.
At the conclusion of the 2003 season, McDermott was named the RMAC Coach of the Year after leading Regis to a 28-26 overall record and a berth in the RMAC Tournament. In 2004, Regis posted a 32-18 overall record and advanced into the RMAC Tournament, as well.
McDermott's coaching resume includes nine seasons (1989-97) as the head coach at Briar Cliff College (NAIA) in Sioux City, Iowa. During his time at Briar Cliff, McDermott compiled a 345-180-3 overall record (.656) while leading his teams to four District Championships (1990, 1995-97) and six consecutive seasons in the NAIA Top-20 (1992-97). Furthermore, McDermott, who served on a number of NAIA baseball committees during his time at Briar Cliff, earned District Coach of the Year honors five times and was a three-time Regional Coach of the Year selection.
All told, McDermott has compiled a career record (20 years) of
617-467-3 (.569 winning percentage). Heading into the 2012
season, McDermott stands 22nd amongst active NCAA Division II head
coaches with his 617 victories.
Prior to his stint at Briar Cliff, McDermott served as an
assistant baseball coach, as well as the recruiting and compliance
coordinator, at Saint Mary's College (NCAA I; Moraga, Calif.) from
1985 to 1988. During the summers of 1985 and 1986, McDermott was
the head coach of the Contra Costa Giants semipro club, leading the
team to a 59-18 record an a pair of East Bay regional titles.
From 1994-97, McDermott spent his off-seasons as the pitching
coach for the Sioux City Explorers, an independent professional
team competing at the Double A level. A member of the American
Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), McDermott has also served as
an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.
McDermott began his collegiate coaching career at Metro State in
1982, serving as hitting instructor and assistant coach. In 1983,
he was named head coach at Wheat Ridge High School. During his two
seasons with the Farmers, McDermott coached the Farmers to a 38-14
record and won a pair of league championships (1983-84). He was
named league Coach of the Year both seasons. Additionally,
McDermott spent the summers of 1981-84 as the head coach of the
Wheat Ridge American Legion "A" team, compiling a 141-67 record and
three league titles.
After beginning his collegiate baseball career at Western Arizona
J.C., McDermott transferred to play his final two years at Saint
Mary's.
McDermott holds a B.A. in History / Physical Education and an M.A.
in Physical Education / Athletic Administration from Saint
Mary's.
McDermott's wife, Joan, is the Director of Athletics at
Metropolitan State College of Denver. The couple resides in Wheat
Ridge and has six children, Katie, Scott, John, Tim, Claire, and
Jackson.

Ben Buck

Ben Buck returns to the Denver area as the top assistant coach for head coach Dan McDermott. The Skyview High School product enters his first season at Regis after spending three seasons as the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at his alma mater Lamar Community College in Lamar, Colo.
While being the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Lamar, he contributed to 152 wins, two Region 9 Championships, two Empire Conference Championships and two District appearances. He had the privilege to coach two players selected in the MLB Draft, four All-Americans, and over 25 all-region selections, while placing over 30 sophomores to four-year institutions.
Buck spent his first two seasons of his playing career at Lamar CC (2001-02) and left Lamar as the all-time leader with 18 career saves. In two seasons he helped guide LCC to 106 wins including a #3 final ranking and a third place finish at the JUCO World Series in 2002. In 2002, Buck finished the season with a 1.06 ERA and nine saves, 3rd in the nation, and just 11 walks in 26 innings. He is second all-time with his 1.06 ERA in 2002 and also second in career ERA.
Following his two years at LCC, Buck continued his collegiate career at The University of Utah. Used primarily as a closer, Buck appeared in 26 games as a junior and had 22 strikeouts in 29 innings. As a senior he appeared in 35 games and started nine. He finished his career with 61 appearances, 117 innings pitched, 71 strikeouts, and seven wins. During his senior year, Buck led the Utes in wins with six and appearances.
Buck then pitched professionally for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in 2004, an independent Frontier League club affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Buck was a feature speaker at the College Coaches Skills Camp in December of 2010 and will be in charge of the Ranger pitchers.
Dave Mumper

Dave Mumper is in his second season as assistant baseball coach at Regis in 2012, and brings years of experience to the field. Mumper coached Colorado high school baseball for 18 years at Douglas County, Highlands Ranch and ThunderRidge high schools.
Mumper's 18-year career, where he was 204-135 (60.2 percent), culminated in 2004 when he led ThunderRidge HS to an 18-8 record and the Colorado Class 5A State Championship. Following that season he was named the Rocky Mountain News Coach of the Year and the Denver Post All-Colorado Coach of the Year. He was also tabbed the American Baseball Coaches Association Region VII Coach of the Year.
Mumper stepped down as head coach following the 2004 season and became the athletic director and assistant principal at Mountain Vista HS in Highlands Ranch, Colo. He was in that position till 2010 when he began his work with the Regis University baseball team.
Mumper was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the Colorado Dugout Club Hall of Fame. He has been a professional scout for major league teams such as the Florida Marlins, Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox. He was a past president of the Colorado High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Gino Carbajal

Gino Carbajal begins his second season as an assistant coach for the Regis University baseball team in 2012. Coach Carbajal brings over 15 years of baseball coaching experience and most recently was the head coach at Faith Christian High School in Arvada, Colo. In his four seasons at the helm he had a 104-21, an 83.2 winning percentage.
He guided FCHS to the 2007 Colorado Class 3A Championship and led the Eagles to four league championships, five regional championships and four trips to the final four of the state tournament.
He was named the Metro League Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2010 and was named the Denver Post Class 3A Coach of the year both in 2006 and 2007.
Carbajal started his baseball coaching career in 1995 where he was a little league coach for the Arvada Junior Baseball Corporation. He began at Faith Christian as the junior varsity coach in 2001 and continued through the 2005 season and began as the head coach in 2006.
Carbajal and his wife Denise have four sons, one of which, Mariano, is a freshman on the Ranger baseball team. Carbajal is also the owner of Mile Hi Painting, LLC, a company he has owned since 1987.
