The 2012 baseball season will be Head Coach Dan McDermott's 12th season at the helm of the Regis University baseball team. McDermott assumed head coaching duties in May of 2000 after spending 1998-2000 as the Rangers' pitching coach and top assistant.  McDermott heads into the 2012 season as the all-time winningest coach at Regis and second at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa.

In 11 years as the skipper of the Rangers, McDermott's teams have gone 272-287 (.487 winning percentage).  The Rangers have posted a 136-127 (.517) home record over that same time, including 17 wins in 2009, the most by any Regis team since McDermott took over.

At the conclusion of the 2003 season, McDermott was named the RMAC Coach of the Year after leading Regis to a 28-26 overall record and a berth in the RMAC Tournament. In 2004, Regis posted a 32-18 overall record and advanced into the RMAC Tournament, as well.

McDermott's coaching resume includes nine seasons (1989-97) as the head coach at Briar Cliff College (NAIA) in Sioux City, Iowa. During his time at Briar Cliff, McDermott compiled a 345-180-3 overall record (.656) while leading his teams to four District Championships (1990, 1995-97) and six consecutive seasons in the NAIA Top-20 (1992-97). Furthermore, McDermott, who served on a number of NAIA baseball committees during his time at Briar Cliff, earned District Coach of the Year honors five times and was a three-time Regional Coach of the Year selection.

All told, McDermott has compiled a career record (20 years) of 617-467-3 (.569 winning percentage).  Heading into the 2012 season, McDermott stands 22nd amongst active NCAA Division II head coaches with his 617 victories.

Prior to his stint at Briar Cliff, McDermott served as an assistant baseball coach, as well as the recruiting and compliance coordinator, at Saint Mary's College (NCAA I; Moraga, Calif.) from 1985 to 1988. During the summers of 1985 and 1986, McDermott was the head coach of the Contra Costa Giants semipro club, leading the team to a 59-18 record an a pair of East Bay regional titles.

From 1994-97, McDermott spent his off-seasons as the pitching coach for the Sioux City Explorers, an independent professional team competing at the Double A level. A member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), McDermott has also served as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.

McDermott began his collegiate coaching career at Metro State in 1982, serving as hitting instructor and assistant coach. In 1983, he was named head coach at Wheat Ridge High School. During his two seasons with the Farmers, McDermott coached the Farmers to a 38-14 record and won a pair of league championships (1983-84). He was named league Coach of the Year both seasons. Additionally, McDermott spent the summers of 1981-84 as the head coach of the Wheat Ridge American Legion "A" team, compiling a 141-67 record and three league titles.

After beginning his collegiate baseball career at Western Arizona J.C., McDermott transferred to play his final two years at Saint Mary's.

McDermott holds a B.A. in History / Physical Education and an M.A. in Physical Education / Athletic Administration from Saint Mary's.

McDermott's wife, Joan, is the Director of Athletics at Metropolitan State College of Denver. The couple resides in Wheat Ridge and has six children, Katie, Scott, John, Tim, Claire, and Jackson.
