Sophomore Tony Piazza Earns Daktronics Baseball Second Team All-Central Region Honors
St. Paul, Minn.: Sophomore first baseman/utility player Tony Piazza was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region Second Team. Piazza helped guide the Ranger baseball team to their first NCAA Tournament berth in 21 years.
Piazza, from Scottsdale, Ariz., spent time as the Rangers third baseman and designated hitter before finding a home at first base. He finished third on the team with a .316 batting average and 60 hits. He smacked 14 doubles, second most on the team, while leading the team with three triples. He ranks third in RBIs (34) and fourth in homeruns (4).
Piazza and the Rangers finished the season with 33 victories, the second most in school history, and their first RMAC Tournament Championship. They also earned just their second NCAA Tournament berth, the first since 1991.
