Rangers on the Way to take on Mavericks in NCAA Tournament First Round on May 17th

MANKATO, Minn.:  Fresh off their staggering win over Colorado State University-Pueblo to claim the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament Championship title last week, the Ranger men head to Mankato, Minn. to compete in the NCAA tournament.

It is the Rangers first appearance in the tournament since the 1991 season.  The team will enter the tournament as the #6 seed, facing off against the #1 seed, Minnesota State-Mankato. 

The Mavericks enter the competition 44-10 in overall play.  As a part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mavs have amassed a 27-5 conference record.

The Rangers bring a 29-21 overall record and a 23-17 RMAC record to the game.

The winner of game one will take on the loser of game three, between #3 seed Colorado Mesa (39-14) and #4 N.M. Highlands (39-14).  The loser will head to game four to play the loser of game two between #2 St. Cloud State (45-12) AND #5 Winona State University (29-20).  The four day tournament will determine the National Regional Champions.

All-RMAC Second Team selection Alex Haag leads the Ranger lineup with a .378 average at the plate, having collected 59 hits and 40 RBIs in 159 at bats.

Sophomore Steven Brault leads the men with 44 RBIs on the season.  He has 48 hits including 11 doubles and four homeruns.

Designated hitter Jon Shoutta is also having a year at the plate, posting a team-high eight homeruns and a .556 slugging percentage

Commanding the mound for Regis includes Aaron Harms, Mike McElreath and Charlie Henderson.  Harms currently lead the Rangers, boasting a 2.79 ERA and a 7-1 record.  In his 51.2 innings, he has struck out 31 and allowed 47 hits.  Opponents have a 2.40 batting average against him. 

Right-hander McElreath has struck out 55 and allowed 29 walks in his 75.1 innings.  He has amassed a 3.70 ERA and a 7-4 record. 

RMAC Tournament MVP Charlie Henderson also holds quite a presence on the mound.  He leads the Rangers with 76 strikeouts in 91.1 innings pitched.  He has earned a 6-4 record and an ERA of 4.14.

The game will take place on Thursday, May 17th at 6:00 PM in Mankato, Minnesota.
