Lakewood, Colo.: (By Dylan Docker) Regis played their final road games of the 2012 season with a doubleheader against Colorado Christian University on Saturday. The Rangers (25-20, 20-16 RMAC) combined to hit five home runs in the two games, leading the visitors to a four-game series sweep of the Cougars (9-36, 6-29 RMAC) 

Game One – Regis 14, Colorado Christian 6

Junior right-hander Aaron Harms started the early game for the Rangers. The Cougars countered with junior Kyle Yanke.

The Regis offense has consistently applied early pressure during their recent stretch of hot hitting, and Saturday was no exception. Junior center fielder Ryan Eustice made an immediate statement by leading off the game with his third home run of the year.

Junior catcher Nano Jacobsen provided another Regis run in the fourth inning with a two-out RBI double. Harms was stellar through the first four innings, retiring 11 consecutive hitters at one point to preserve an early 2-0 Regis advantage.

The Rangers blew the game open in the fifth with eight runs on six hits. Junior second baseman Nick Billinger and junior shortstop Cody Hastings each hit two-run homers in the inning, putting the visitors in a 10-0 hole as Harms continued to dominate.

The two homers were season firsts for both Billinger and Hastings.

Regis piled on four more runs in the seventh, capped off by Eustice's second home run of the game. His three-run bomb put the home team out of reach for good.

The Cougars scored a run in the home half of the seventh and rallied for five runs in the eighth, but the offensive onslaught by the visiting squad proved to be too much.

The Rangers took game three with 14 runs on 16 hits and two errors. The Cougars fell with six runs on 10 hits and three errors. Harms (6-1) claimed the win for allowing one earned run and striking out three over seven innings of work. Yanke (1-7) was charged with the loss after yielding 10 runs (nine earned) over five innings pitched.

Eustice finished 2-for-5 with his two home runs, a walk, and three runs scored. Senior third baseman Dave Holland kept the ball in the yard but still had a productive game for the Rangers, going 3-for-5 with two RBI's and a pair of runs scored.

Eight of the nine Regis starters collected RBI's in Saturday's early game.

Game Two – Regis 9, Colorado Christian 3

Right-handed junior Kyle Mack took the ball looking to complete the sweep, while junior Matt Briner looked to salvage 1-of-4 for the home team.

The Rangers again took immediate control courtesy of Alex Haag. The senior left fielder put Regis on the board in the first inning with a double to score junior center fielder Bob Terry, who returned to the starting line-up having fully recovered from a finger injury he sustained several weeks ago.

After they tied the score with a run in the bottom of the first, the Cougars surrendered the lead once again as Regis collected four runs in the second inning. Two defensive errors and two wild pitches by Briner resulted in all four runs for the visitors.

The Rangers added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run big fly from sophomore right fielder Steven Brault. With his fourth home run of the season Brault put the Rangers on top 8-1.

Colorado Christian added a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth, but Regis tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to win the nightcap and secure the four-game series sweep.

The Rangers scored nine runs on 10 hits and one error in the game-four victory. The Cougars posted three runs on seven hits and four errors in the losing effort. Mack (4-3) was credited with the win for his five innings pitched, three earned runs allowed, and three strikeouts. Briner (2-8) allowed five runs (two earned) in two innings to earn the loss for Colorado Christian.

Haag finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, and two runs scored in the late game. Jacobsen and sophomore designated hitter Tony Piazza each collected a pair of hits as well.

The Rangers will return home to face Nebraska-Kearney, opening up their final four-game set of the regular season with a doubleheader on Friday, May 4. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Game two is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:00 p.m.
