Rangers Predicted to Finish Fourth in RMAC Race; Senior J.T. Putt Selected RMAC Preseason Player of the Year

Colorado Springs, Colo.: The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its baseball preseason poll and awards yesterday with Regis picked to finish fourth overall and second in the Plains Division. Furthermore, senior J.T. Putt was picked as the RMAC Preseason Player of the Year.
Regis garnered one first place vote while six-team defending regular season champions Mesa State was picked to win the conference again, according to the RMAC's eight head coaches. New Mexico Highlands was selected second overall and second in the Mountain Division, while CSU-Pueblo was picked third overall and the winner of the Plains Division.
Regis finished with a 23-29 record last spring including a 14-21 loop record. The Rangers qualified for the RMAC Postseason Tournament where they knocked off one-seed Mesa State in the first game but were bounced after losing to Metro State and New Mexico Highlands.
Putt, a senior outfielder from Evergreen, Colo., was an honorable mention All-America pick last season. He finished the season with a .426 batting average and 23 doubles, both tops on the team. He was a First Team All-RMAC selection last season in which he also tallied 84 hits and 12 home runs, both second on the team.
Fellow seniors catcher Patrick Farrell and shortstop Jesus Arzaga were both selected to the RMAC Preseason All-Conference Team. Farrell, from Cheyenne, Wyo., led the team with 15 homeruns and 65 RBIs. He was named Third Team All-RMAC last season and was also named to the RMAC All-Tournament team.
Arzaga, from Mesa, Ariz., finished last season with a 14-game hit streak and over the last 23 games he went 52-for-102 (.510) to raise his batting average from .308 to .407. His 85 hits and 66 runs scored led the Rangers. He was named Second Team All-RMAC last season as well as honorable mention All-Region.
Regis will begin their season on Feb. 5th as they travel to Phoenix, Ariz. to take on perennial power Grand Canyon for a four-game series.
