CSU-Pueblo Nips Rangers 6-5 in Game 1; Second Game Suspended Due to Darkness

Denver, Colo.: The final home games of the careers of the Regis seniors didn't go as they wanted as they fell 6-5 to CSU-Pueblo in the first game and trailed 14-12 in the second game before darkness halted it after six innings.

CSU-Pueblo (19-17, 13-10 RMAC) got on the board first in the third inning with a single run.  Regis responded with three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run double by senior Jesus Arzaga.  Regis (13-21, 9-16 RMAC) led 4-2 before the Thunderwolves were able to tie the score in the sixth inning with two runs.

CSU-Pueblo took a one-run lead in the eighth inning before Regis came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.  With two outs and no one one Arzaga doubled to right field and the very next batter, senior J.T. Putt, traded places with Arzaga with a double of his own to left field, driving in Arzaga.

A one-out sacrifice fly by CSU-Pueblo's Jon Proesl proved to be the game-winner in the ninth inning, a ninth inning that the Thunderwolves got no hits but one walk and a wild pitch that aided their victory.

Regis did get the tying run, senior Max Regalado, with one out on second base after his one-out double, but two straight strikeouts put the Ranger comeback on the shelf.

Arzaga went 2-for-3 in the game including two RBIs.  Regalado and sophoore Alex Haag each went 2-for-5 while Haag and freshman Trevor LaFarge, playing in his first career game, each drove in one run.

Junior Bryant Asnicar pitche 1/3 of an inning and was saddled with the loss while starter Charlie Henderson finished 7 2/3 innings allowing four earned runs with six strikeouts.  Senior Eric Anderson pitched one no-hit inning.
