Rangers Earn Split with Colorado Mines in RMAC Baseball Action
Golden, Colo.: The Rangers split with Colorado Mines today in RMAC baseball action including a one-run win, 9-8, in the first game. Colorado Mines took the nightcap by a score of 7-3 to take 2-of-3 from the Rangers.
Regis (14-25, 10-20 RMAC) led 5-0 after four innings before Colorado Mines (10-26, 5-24 RMAC) rallied back with six in the bottom of the fourth to take the 6-5 lead. Trailing 7-5 heading into the eighth inning, when senior Gerard Mohrmann came through with a two-run homerun driving in sophomore Alex Haag who singled through the right side.
Regis then tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth and boy would they need it. Mohrmann again would come up big with another two-run homerun, this time with two outs, driving in sophomore Dave Holland to take a 9-7 lead.
Back-to-back doubles to lead off the bottom of the ninth put the tying run at second base with no outs for the Orediggers. However, junior stopper Bryant Asnicar came in and after walking the first two men he faced, one with the bases loaded, he was able to get two straight strikeouts and a line out to end the game at 9-8 and earn his third save of the season.
Morhmann went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs. He was joined by fellow senior Max Regalado with three hits, while sophomore Bob Terry had a base hit and a double. Senior J.T. Putt had a two-run double to help the Rangers to 13 hits.
Sophomore Steve Falconi pitched six strong innings giving up just three earned runs while striking out seven. Senior Eric Anderson came out of the bullpen to earn the victory going two innings allowing just one run.

Colorado Mines opened the game by scoring five runs in the first two innings and behind the strong pitching of Cris Rogers who scattered seven hits over seven innings allowing just three runs were able to beat Regis 7-3.
Colorado Mines tacked two more on in the fifth to lead 7-1 before Regis scored two in the sixth to close the gap, but it was too little too late for the Rangers.
Mohrmann had another homerun for the Rangers, his third of the weekend, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Regis will finish out the regular season by travelling to Kearney, Neb. for a three-game series with RMAC Mountain Division leaders Nebraska-Kearney. First game is set for Friday evening while a doubleheader is on tap for Saturday.
