Ranger Baseball Splits Pair with Colorado Mines

Denver, Colo.: Errors prove costly for Regis in the first game of a doubleheader with Colorado Mines falling 7-5 but they rebound behind another solid pitching performance by Gerard Mohrmann with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Regis (5-7, 4-2 RMAC) led 1-0 after the third inning but Colorado Mines (5-5, 2-4 RMAC) scored four runs in the fourth inning on four hits and one Regis error.  The Rangers tied the game at five in the seventh inning scoring two runs.  Junior Tim Terry drove in senior Max Regalado after Regalado's double and then a few batters later senior J.T. Putt got an easy RBI with a walk to drive in sophomore Bob Terry.

Colorado Mines scored one run each in the eighth and ninth innings for the 7-5 victory.  The Rangers were plaqued by six errors in the game.

Sophomore Steve Falconi went six innings for the no decision.  He gave up just one earned run while striking out six.  Sophomore Mike McElreath received the loss giving up a game-winning homerun in the eighth inning.  Ben Smiley came in from the bullpen to pick up the victory for the Orediggers, his first of the season.

Sophomore Alex Haag went 3-for-4 at the plate, while senior Patrick Farrell led the Rangers with two RBIs.  Five players had two hits each for Colorado Mines with Matt Spirek driving in two runs.

Regis scored three runs in each of the third and fifth innings and held off a late Colorado Mines rally for the 6-4 victory.

Farrell bombed his team-leading fourth homerun in the third inning driving in senior Jesus Arzaga and Tim Terry in front of him.  Regis got four hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead heading into the sixth inning.

Senior Gerard Mohrmann was cruising along allowing just one earned run through 6 1/3 innings before giving up the three runs and succumbed to junior Bryant Asnicar who got his second save of the season striking out Brett Olsson to end the game.

Mohrmann scattered six hits allowing four earned runs while striking out five.

Arzaga and junior Zach Blakeley each went 2-for-3, with Arzaga crossing the plate twice.  Farrell led the Rangers with three RBIs and now leads the Rangers with 17 on the season.

Tyler Phan Thornton led the Orediggers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.  Cris Rogers lossed his first game of the season going four innings allowing five runs on eight hits.

Regis will take on Metro State in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
