Regis and Metro State Split Baseball Twinbill
Denver, Colo.: The Regis and Metro State offenses showed up today one day after the pitchers ruled the diamond. Metro State took the first game 12-8 while Regis took the nightcap 11-3.
Metro State (12-13, 9-5 RMAC) struck first with one run in the top of the first inning. Regis (10-15, 6-10 RMAC) responed with three runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by a two-run homerun by senior Patrick Farrell, his team-leading 13th of the season.
The Roadrunners took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning while tacking two more on in each of the fifth and sixth innings and three in the seventh inning to take a 12-4 lead after seven innings.
Regis took advantage of four errors on two separate plays from Metro State to score three runs and cut the lead to 12-7. Senior Max Regalado led off the bottom of the ninth with a homerun to left center field but that would be all the Rangers could muster falling 12-8 in the first game.
Seniors J.T. Putt and Jesus Arzaga each went 3-for-5 from the plate with each scoring one run. Junior Zach Blakeley and Regalado each collected two hits while Regalado and Farrell each drove in two runs.
Sophomore Mike McElreath was saddled with the loss dropping to 1-3 on the season. Regis used four pitchers in the first game. Junior Reuben Gallegos (2/3 of an inning), senior Gerard Mohrmann (5.0) and sophomore Nick Capra (2.0). Capra scattered three hits while allowing no runs and striking out two.

Regis chased Metro State starter Bradshaw Perry after just 2 1/3 innings scoring five runs, three earned, but just on one hit. Metro State's David Fox, who was 6-for-6 in the first game, began the second game with a two-run homerun to give the Roadrunners an early 2-0 lead.
Regalado's single in the second inning scored Putt from second after he led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Regis then scored four more in the third inning on just one hit. They were aided by one Roadrunner error and two wild pitches.
Sophomore Dave Holland's single and Farrell's sacrifice fly put two more runs on the board for Regis in the fourth. The Rangers scored four insurance runs in the sixth inning on three hits a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Sophomore southpaw Steve Falconi went six innings scattering five hits and just two runs. He struck out five Roadrunners and was followed by junior Bryant Asnicar's one inning where he struck out two and allowed just one run.
Sophomore Alex Haag went 2-for-3 at the dish, while Arzaga was 2-for-4. Putt led the Rangers with two RBIs while Holland and Farrell each earned two walks apiece. Sophomore Colt Meacham came in off the bench to play right field after Regalado was injured on a fly ball went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Regis will travel to play Colorado Christian on Thursday for a doubleheader that begins at 12:00 p.m. in Golden, Colo. on the campus of Colorado Mines.
