Rangers Pound Four Homeruns in 12-3 Defeat of Metro State
Denver, Colo.: In a mid-week non-conference game against Metro State, Regis was able to pound four homeruns in defeating the Roadrunners 12-3 today. Senior Max Regalado provided the Rangers with a 4-for-5 outing with three RBIs.
Metro State (8-6) got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but there lead would be short lived as Regis (6-7) scored two in the second and four in the third. The two-run second was highlighted by sophomore Alex Haag's two-run homerun, his second of the season.
Regalado connected on his third homerun of the season a three-run job, that was proceeded by junior Zach Blakeley's one-run single to account for the four Ranger runs in the third.
Metro State scored single runs in the fifth and sixth inning before Regis got one of those runs back by scoring a run on a solo homerun by senior Patrick Farrell, his team-leading fifth of the season.
Regis then put some distance between the two teams scoring five in the eighth inning. Seniors Jesus Arzaga and J.T. Putt provided four of the runs. Arzaga tripled in sophomores Colt Meacham and Dave Holland and Putt came up next and sent a ball to left center that found the other side of the fence for a two-run homerun.
Senior Eric Anderson came in and shut down Metro State in the ninth to help Regis claim the 12-3 win.
Sophomore Charlie Henderson picked up his second win of the season against no losses in going two innings allowing just one earned run. Head Coach Dan McDermott planned on pitching by committee and the committee did a good job. Fellow sophomore Mike McElreath pitched four innings allowing just one earned run. Junior Bryant Asnicar pitched the other two innings striking out three and allowing no hits.
Blakeley went 3-for-4, while Arzaga was 3-for-5 at the plate. Farrell went 2-for-5 with two runs scored tied for the team lead with Arzaga, Blakeley and Regalado. Haag, Putt and Arzaga each drove in two runs for Regis.
Regis doesn't have much downtime as they host Colorado Christian in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Regis Baseball Field.
