Regis Falls Twice to Mavericks

Grand Junction, Colo.: After falling to Mesa State by one run on Friday, 7-6, Regis fell by one again on Saturday in game one, 5-4, before succumbing to the Mavericks 6-2 in game two. The Rangers took a two run lead in both games but were unable to hold onto it either time eventually dropping both games to Mesa State.

In game one, Regis grabbed two early first inning runs on an RBI double down the left field line by Patrick Farrell and a fielder's choice by Zach Blakeley that scored the second run. The Mavericks didn't post any runs until the bottom of the third when they took a one run lead after scoring three. 

Regis was able to go up by one again as they tallied two more runs in the top of the fourth. Wes Keelan and Scott Payne both reached on a fielder's choice that each scored one Ranger run.

Mesa State added one run to the board in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to go up by one going into the seventh. With Regis unable to score a run in the top of the inning, the Mavericks walked away with the win. Bryant Asnicar recorded the loss for Regis and falls to 2-2 this season.

Regis again scored two runs to take the lead in game two. This time, the runs were scored in the second and matched by the Mavericks in the bottom of the inning. Regalado brought in the first run on a double to left center before Dave Holland brought in the second as he grounded out to the shortstop.

The Mavericks went up by one in the bottom of the third when they posted one more run. In the fourth, they increased their lead to four, 6-2, when they tallied three more runs. With Regis unable to score again, Mesa State grabbed the victory. Steve Falconi falls to 1-4 after recording the loss.

Up next, the Rangers will face Mesa State on Sunday fo finish up the series. First pitch is set for noon.
